National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief John Oyegun has reiterated the fact that his party will gleefully congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan if he wins the elections but under one condition that the elections are free and fair.
This was contained in a statement issued on to congratulate Nigerians on the Christmas, Eid-El-Maulud and New Year celebrations. “As a party we assure you that we will congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) if our presidential candidate and party are defeated in free and fair elections and will not go to court,” he said. The chairman however said that the party would not accept the result of a rigged election by the ruling party.
He added that it would form a parallel government if the government uses security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to intimidate and harass voters during the election. “We ask you to collectively insist on free, fair and transparent elections because that is the only way to allow the wishes of the people to manifest,” Oyegun said.
