Chieftain of the People’s Democrat ic Party (PDP) and governorship aspirant in Imo State, Prof. Jude Njoku, has urged Ndigbo to support the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan adding that doing so remains the best option for the zone and the country.
Njoku, a former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), made the call during a meeting of all PDP gubernatorial aspirants conveyed to resolve the current political logjam in Owerri. The don turned politician, opined that the Southeast geo-political zone stands to gain more if Jonathan is re-elected “to continue with his transformation agenda”, particularly in the zone. He cited numerous ongoing road projects in the Southeast, as well as the construction of the second Niger Bridge and the conversion of the Enugu Airport to an International Cargo Airport, which he said are critical to the economic survival of the people of the Southeast as some of the reasons the zone should throw its weight behind Jonathan in 2015.
Njoku noted that despite the claim by the opposition that Jonathan was not efficiently fighting insurgency, the available statistics points to the fact that the President has done enough to bring the insurgency under control. He stressed further that the President had accumulated “a wealth of experience and knowledge to fight the insurgents to submission during his second tenure”, adding that the insurgency was political and designed to stop Jonathan from getting a second tenure.
Commenting of the political situation in Imo State ahead of the governorship election, Njoku advised other governorship aspirants to throw their support behind anybody the party will confirm as candidate, advising that the aspirants should not do anything to jeopardize the chances of Jonathan and that of the party in the state. “The party is supreme and every effort must be made to ensure that both the party and President Jonathan achieved a landslide victory in the forthcoming elections”, he declared.
